Street Brawl Ends in Fatality

Earlier this month a suspect was arrested after a fight in around the 980 Highway in Oakland.
Police arrived to the scene after they received a report of a woman who was uncontrollably screaming. Once they approached the woman they found 58-year-old Barry DeWitt on the ground with several traumatic head injuries.
According to reports, the fight had ended just before the police arrived. DeWitt was immediately sent to the hospital for his injuries, where he later died from the brain trauma sustained in the brawl.
Investigators were able to collect video surveillance from a residents private security cameras. In addition eye witness reports from other citizens in the 23rd and Martin Luther King Jr. Way authorities were able to identify a person of interest in the case.
The suspect was arrested and later identified as 40-year-old Brandon Jones of Oakland. He is currently being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin as the investigation continues. Authorities have not released any information as to whether or not they will continue in filing charges against Jones.
