Mother of Three Killed in Shootout

Earlier this month Chyemil Pierce, 30, of Oakland was attempting to take cover with her children during a gunfight near her home when she was struck by a stray bullet in the back of the head.
Anthony Sims, 19, Shelton McDaniels, 29, and Jerry Harbin Jr., 29, started exchange gunshots after a high speed chase in East Oakland.
Harbin and McDaniels were found and arrested four days after the shooting in a nearby neighborhood. Police located a 9mm gun in Harbin’s car along with drugs and a large amount of cash.
Officials determined that Harbin will face additional charges of allegedly aiding McDaniels to elude arrest and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The third shooter Sims was identified as the suspect who was attempting to murder Harbin during the shootout. He is also a convicted felon who was convicted previously for murder.
Eyewitness reports stated that a crowd of people were in a verbal altercation and when the fight began to get violent one woman called friends from a group known as the Lower Bottom from West Oakland. Sims was allegedly among one of the West Oakland friends called to the scene known as Third World by local gang members.
Pierce had just returned from picking up her children from school when the shooting started. She was able to get her children to safety before she had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
All three suspects are facing charges for the murder of Chyemil Pierce along with their individual charges. They remain is Santa Rita Jail without the opportunity of bail.
