Dublin, CA—On July 19, 2016, just a few short weeks ago, a man suspected of robbing the Bank of the West in the Dublin area was apprehended by local law enforcement.
The officers responded to 7533 Dublin Boulevard at around 11:14 a.m. to investigate reports of a bank robbery. According to the police’s report, the man entered the bank and demanded money from the tellers. He then fled the scene on a bicycle.
He carried with him an indeterminable amount of stolen goods. As of now, no other parties were revealed to have been significantly harmed during the crime. While it is assumed that the suspect was armed, it is currently unclear as to whether or not he actually was armed with a firearm or some other lethal weapon when he walked into the bank.
The police proceeded to conduct a search the area and found 57-year-old Andrew Smith on the West Dublin BART station platform. He matched the description of the bank robber and was pointed out by a witness as the suspect.
In a further statement, officers revealed that a subsequent search of Smith’s belongings ultimately incriminated him; he possessed large amounts of cash and other evidence which served to implicate him in the robbery, and he was arrested. Smith has since been confined in Santa Rita Jail.
