The position is located in Sells, AZ.

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, ensure to improve the quality of education by cultivating a dual-language instructional format through curriculum development and educational advancement where the O'odham culture, language, and history serves as the foundation of the Tohono O'odham ha Ma:mscama i he We:mta Program.

The work is goal driven with ongoing reviews and adjustments, with occasional spot checks while in process, to ensure accuracy, timeliness and conformance to established standards; major work tasks are covered by instructions or procedures and unusual situations are referred to a supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the Tohono O'odham Education Standards with the aim of improving educational opportunities.
  • Create, modify, and improve curriculum resources and materials in a variety of format to support a full immersion of Ni'ok teaching, learning, and communication.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations to improve curriculum planning and teaching methods.
  • Evaluate and interpret assessment data, strategies for tracking student progress, and communication of results.
  • Coach teachers and instructional aides in strategies for effective instructional delivery and curriculum planning.
  • Collaborate with Tohono O'odham Nation, departments, and community programs to implement and maintaining services in accordance with governing requirement in developing the most effective educational programs.
  • Develops and maintain records and databases on student and program activities, materials, and supplies.
  • Organizes and facilitates classes, workshops, seminars, and other training services.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Education or closely related field and four years' work experience in a teaching or curriculum, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • Incumbents are required to demonstrate fluency in both Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Must obtain an O'odham Teacher Certification within two years of hire.
  • Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of
  • Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
  • May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
