Job Description

Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Staff Accountant is to perform various accounting functions including but not limited to, recording of journal entries and account reconciliations.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely, accurate completion of all assigned Blackline tasks or assignments.
  • Prepare journal entries for daily banking and monthly journal entries as part of the month-end closing process.
  • Prepare month-end, quarter-end and annual close of the general ledger accounts.
  • Perform daily cash management operations for the property, including cash reconciliations, variance investigations and cash reporting.
  • Implement cash management best practices and procedures to ensure efficiency & enhance internal controls and minimize fees.
  • Analyze activities and provide recommendations with safeguarding the property assets to ensure financial transactions, policies and procedures are maintained and fulfilled.
  • Prepare, transact, and document all wire transfers and ACH payments/check transactions in accordance with established property policies and procedures.
  • Monitor Positive Pay and ACH Debit Blocking services for pay/return decisions.
  • Maintain master bank account list and bank account schematics, including updating signers and account changes.
  • Review cash management banking agreements to ensure adherence to pricing and service quality of banking products.
  • Drive property treasury procedures and controls including compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 and Internal Audit reviews.
  • Manage the property credit card program including opening/deactivating cards and credit limit increases.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the ongoing maintenance and administration of the property treasury systems including CashPro and corporate credit card program.
  • Arrange timeline to complete tasks and department assignments or projects, and meet the deadlines related to those assignments.
  • Working closely with Senior Management on various financial objectives and system upgrades.
  • Ensure financial output documents, including reports to management, are accurate and timely in accordance with GAAP and The Venetian’s accounting policies.
  • Ensure compliance with the property internal control standards, the established Minimum Internal Control Standards, and the regulations and statutes established by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
  • Perform the timely, accurate and complete reconciliation of the balance sheet accounts that pertain to gaming and non-gaming audits.
  • Preparing and/or review all gaming and/or non-gaming revenue journals.
  • Review all package programs and ticketing calculations to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Must be able to analyze balance sheet fluctuations, review profit & loss statements and provide pertinent information to upper management.
  • Safety is an essential function of this job.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada Gaming Control Board registration and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy.
  • 2 – 3 years of finance or accounting experience.
  • Familiar with general ledger operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High ethical standards, level of commitment and ability to cope with complexity and change.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of gaming/non-gaming audits and statutory and regulatory requirement.
  • Demonstrated experience in reconciling balance sheet accounts as well as experience in creating reports as needed with minimum supervision.
  • Must possess strong time management skills, attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in spoken and written form.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Lift or carry 20 pounds, unassisted, in the performance of specific tasks, as assigned.
  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability for prolonged periods of time to walk, stand, stretch, bend, and kneel .
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
