Retail Sales and Merchandising Associate

Shawmut Ave, Boston MA

Employment Type: Permanent, Part-time (15-20 hours per week)

Schedule: Nights and weekend availability required

Walden Local is searching for the next member of our 2021 Best Of Boston award-winning team to join our mission of Making Local Work, right here in the Northeast. You will be connecting local families with local farmers by assisting in the management of Walden Local's South End Boston butcher shop including: managing customer relationships and service (both in the store and promoting the Walden Local Meat brand/monthly share program), inventory planning and management, food and store presentation, and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the butcher shop. This is a great position for anyone who loves food and is looking to learn more about butchery!

What You'll Do

• Directly responsible for retail sales and customer interactions at Walden Local's Butcher Shop
• In conjunction with the head butcher, ensure effective merchandising of our core product, add ons and ensure a customer friendly and shoppable environment.
• Assists in the marketing and promotion of classes and demonstrations in conjunction with Walden Local's Marketing team and other applicable departments.
• Acts a conduit and contact for community engagement and development as it pertains to activations for Walden Local and our butcher shop.
• Safely handle, prepare and sell Walden Local products (including partner products)
• Prepare the store for opening and closing
• Maintain the store's cleanliness and safety
• Provide excellent customer service
• Promote the Walden meat share program to butcher shop customers and capture information to share back with the Walden HQ marketing team
• Educate customers on the meat industry, the Walden mission, and specific meat cuts

What You'll Bring

• 1+ year of customer-centric work experience for a premium brand
• Passion for our mission and sustainable food/agriculture
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Enthusiasm for going above and beyond to delight our customers
• Hands-on, "get-it-done" attitude

Bonus points if you have...

• Professional kitchen experience
• Gourmet or specialty food industry experience
• Butchery experience
