Job Description
The Human Resources Generalist is a strategic and hands-on role responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources practices and processes for Elevate, Inc. a nonprofit crisis services agency with 80 full-time, part-time with staff operating across three shifts. The agency serves four counties with three office locations and three residential stay facilities. This role will ensure the alignment of HR strategies with the agency’s mission and values while fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Recruitment and Talent Acquisition: - Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract and retain qualified staff for office and residential roles.
- Manage the hiring process, including job postings, interviews, background checks, and onboarding.
- Partner with leadership staff and department managers to identify staffing needs and build a talent pipeline.
2. Employee Relations and Engagement: - Serve as the primary point of contact for employee concerns, grievances, and conflict resolution.
- Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture across all locations and shifts.
- Design and lead initiatives to enhance employee engagement and retention.
3. Compliance and Policies: - Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including OSHA and FMLA.
- Maintain and update employee handbook and HR policies to reflect best practices and legal requirements.
- Oversee proper record-keeping of employee files and documentation.
4. Training and Development: - Identify training needs and coordinate professional development opportunities for staff at all levels.
- Oversight / training for staff executing policies and procedures with direct reports including but not limited to: hiring, termination, and supervisor responsibilities.
- Facilitate leadership development programs for supervisors and managers.
- Conduct mandatory compliance training, including DEI, harassment prevention, and safety protocols.
5. Compensation and Benefits Administration: - Oversee payroll processing and ensure accurate and timely payments.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies.
- Benchmark compensation practices to ensure market competitiveness.
7. Strategic HR Leadership: - Partner with senior leadership to align HR practices with organizational goals and long-term strategies.
- Analyze HR metrics to provide insights and recommend process improvements.
- Lead diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to ensure an equitable work environment.
Qualifications: - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is preferred or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of HR experience, ideally in a nonprofit or healthcare setting. Experience managing employees across shifts is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems, Microsoft Office, and scheduling tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Work Environment: This position requires flexibility to visit multiple sites, attend occasional evening or weekend meetings, and handle on-call HR issues during emergencies. The HR Manager must demonstrate resilience in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment supporting individuals in crisis.
