Job Description
Amplify is seeking a strategic, forward-thinking Head of Finance to oversee all financial operations for a fast-growing, venture-backed start-up in the Insurtech industry. This role will report to the CEO and will work cross-functionally with department heads. As Head of Finance, you will play an integral role in overall company strategy as well as be responsible for managing, developing, and growing the finance function at Amplify. Your responsibilities will include strategic finance, FP&A, defining and tracking key metrics for the executive team, analytics, budgeting, cross functional collaboration and execution, and managing company financial targets.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Serve as a strategic business partner to the CEO and leadership team to drive financial planning and achieve strategic objectives
- Provide hands-on, metric-driven leadership, analytical and operational insight, and perspective to the CEO and peers
- Prepare comprehensive materials for board meetings and fulfill investor requests throughout the year, with heightened focus during company fundraising
- Establish and maintain a monthly budget, conducting variance analysis to ensure accountability
- Collaborate cross-functionally to evaluate performance and identify areas for improvement
- Conduct finance analytics to assess business performance against financial targets
- Optimize cash conversion cycles to enhance liquidity and financial efficiency, actively seeking opportunities for quicker turnaround in cash inflows and outflows
- Liaise with carrier partners to monitor sales funnel progress and ensure accurate and timely processing of payments
- Build and improve efficient finance operations, overseeing the tracking and management of expected cash flow from sales activities and churn
- Manage churn analysis, forecasting, improvement initiatives, and assess cash flow impact
- Oversee the treasury function and guarantee the company maintains sufficient liquidity
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reports, as well as the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Take charge of all tax matters and implement sound tax planning strategies
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, using Generally Acceptable Principles and Practices
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and guidelines
- Provide strategic recommendations on compensation, encompassing ladder levels, variable compensation, benefits, and equity
- Collaborate with People Ops and the Compensation Committee on matters related to salary, variable compensation, and ESO
- Lead the annual audit and 409a valuation processes, working closely with relevant third-parties and coordinating internally
- Analyze and offer recommendations on pricing, new business lines, market expansion, and other areas to support strategic objectives
- Identify and implement scalable forecasting and secure financial operations through systems, processes, policies, and controls
- Implement business intelligence and analytics systems, creating actionable reporting and dashboards
- Advise on optimal capital allocation and lead capital raises from end to end, capital requirements, investor screening and management, process and timeline management, fundraising materials and narrative, data room management, negotiating terms through to legal close and wiring
- Maintain core metrics such as LTV/CAC, retention, and customer cohort analysis
- Oversee TAM, pricing analysis, and financial decision-making
- Effectively lead and cultivate teams and departments, including FP&A, Accounting, and Business Operations & Analytics
- Address ad hoc requests from the team related to strategic finance and modeling
The Person / Key Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced strategy and operations leader who is highly detailed, ambitious, and relentlessly goal-oriented. The successful candidate will also have an exceptional track record of partnering with CEOs, investors, and leadership team peers to steer the financial implications of major business decisions and strategic company objectives. The Head of Finance will meet the following requirements:
- 5+ years relevant experience in a senior financial leadership role (e.g., CFO)
- 10+ years relevant experience in high growth startup environment
- Background in fast-growing tech companies, ideally in insurance, finance, or consumer tech
- BS or MBA degree; CPA preferred (not required)
- Strong private equity background, with a preference for a strategy and operations background preferred (not required)
- Proficient in creating GAAP-compliant financial statements; experience with auditors preferred
- Experience with insurance Statutory and GAAP rules, financial reporting preferred
- Significant experience owning and operating financial models for entire companies or large portfolios
- Proven success in building and scaling finance organizations, including hiring, systems, and controls
- Ability to constructively challenge the executive team and Board of Directors on strategic decisions
- Operational focus with a track record of promoting financial metrics and standardizing data and processes
- Established external networks with a track record of capital raising
- Experience in identifying new business opportunities and developing strategic financial models
- Proven ability as a "talent magnet" in recruiting and developing finance professionals and high-performing teams
- Effective communication with all levels of the organization, including board members and senior executives
- Meticulous attention to detail in financial modeling; comfortable with finance and accounting software
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills
- Leadership in VC fundraising rounds and navigating growth stages to pre/post-IPO • Advanced proficiency in accounting software and tools
