Man Arrested After Stabbing Girlfriend in Oakland

On November 30th, 35-year-old man was arrested after a fight with his 19-year-old girlfriend that resulted in her death.
Both the suspect and the victim worked at Oakland Market on 18th street. The victim who was later identified as Rusamie Phongphoumy was attempting to end the relationship that she was in with the suspect and he became very upset. The couple had been together since the victim was 18, but she had been unhappy with their relationship for some time.
Once she informed the man that she wanted to break up he picked up a kitchen knife and began stabbing her repeatedly. She tried to escape, but was only able to make it outside of the store before she collapsed.
Residents were able to stop the man from leaving before the police arrived and Phongphoumy was pronounced dead at the scene.
